The Michigan Achievement Scholarship and the Community College Guarantee
Paying for college is easier than ever.

Michigan’s premier scholarship program is now open to even more students! If you earned your diploma or High School Equivalency in 2023* or later, you may be eligible for the Community College Guarantee, which gives Michigan high school graduates an opportunity to earn a tuition-free associate degree or certificate from an in-district community college, regardless of their financial situation.

Students who choose to attend a four-year pathway are eligible for up to $27,500 over five years at an in-state college or university.

*If you graduated spring 2023 and received the Michigan Achievement Scholarship in the 2023-24 academic year, you will be transferred to the Community College Guarantee for fall 2024*

The only way you can find out if you’re eligible: File the FAFSA.

CHANCES ARE, YOU QUALIFY FOR
A FEW GRAND RIGHT NOW.

The Community College Guarantee covers in-district tuition, contact hours, mandatory fees, and an additional $1,000 bonus award for students eligible for a Federal Pell Grant, for up to three years.

Students attending a four-year institution may be eligible for up to $5,500 per year toward Cost of Attendance at public or private colleges or universities in Michigan, for up to five years.

HOW DO YOU GET IT? FILL OUT THE FAFSA.
To see how much you could get, you’ll need to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Don’t wait — it’s an hour of your time that could change your life.
Here’s what you’ll want to have on-hand when you file:
  1. Your Social Security number
  2. Your A-Number (if you’re not a U.S. citizen)
  3. Federal income tax returns, records of child support received and your current balance of cash, savings, and checking accounts (Note: You must provide consent and approval to disclose your federal tax information to be eligible for federal student aid.)
  4. Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable), net worth of investments, businesses, and farms
  5. Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
  6. An FSA ID (account username and password) to log in to StudentAid.gov and start the FAFSA form electronically
And there’s more where that came from.

On top of the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, there are other ways to get some cash for college by filing the FAFSA.

When’s this due?

Students who are eligible for the Community College Guarantee or Michigan Achievement Scholarship four-year pathway must enroll within 15 months of your high school graduation, so don’t delay. File your FAFSA as soon as possible and get enrolled!
